Modular Furniture Concept

Carnegie Mellon University Industrial Design

Hive Modular Furniture looks at the concept of modular furniture in a new light. Aimed at students and young professionals who often move from city to city and from apartment to apartment, the building blocks can be easily separated and reconfigured in an endless amount of ways. Hive has great manufacturing benefits as well. Constructed merely out of plywood, aluminium u-channel extrusions, industrial felt and simple hardware, the components are quick and easy to manufacture. Each unit can be shipped flat packed and is easy to assemble. Once the units are constructed, building them into furniture is fun and easy.
