House in Shukugawa

private residence

The House in Shukugawa is located on a compact flagpole site surrounded on all sides by neighbouring houses in Nishinomiya city, Hyogo. The site conditions make it difficult to open the house to the outside in terms of privacy, so we aimed to create an ‘independent world’ by separating the interior from the surroundings. By using the form of a courtyard and a dome for the house, creating a one-of-a-kind house with its own unique intensity and cosiness, without feeling cramped despite being a closed box. Furthermore, the form is achieved in a highly sustainable construction method of conventional wooden structure + plastering.
