Residential building

"House on the house" is located on the top of a water tower in the middle of downtown of Shanghai. Within 39 m² and 4 m height, we have to combine six people's daily life. We try to "squeeze" the space by splitting levels, thus rooms with different functions become alienated and create a longer "journey" between each space. It is one of the "Humble spaces" series of renovation projects, which are the results of high-speed development of China. We proposed that we should hear from the citizens from the bottom of the society and match the real needs of inhabitants rather than just tear down old districts and build a totally new one.
