The IBM eServer xSeries 306m is a 1U rack-optimized server. This ultra-dense, Intel-based server is for edge-of-network and Web-based systems. The design concept is simple, yet elegant, with a distinct angle along the top of the sheet-metal bezel and a pleasing hexagonal vent pattern that is inherently better for airflow. The design of the square light-pipe indictors that provide information on the systems status is straight forward, as are the two filler panels with their domed geometry, excellent as finger pulls for the buried, easy-swap hard disks. These combined features make for an elegant design.
