The IBM Wireless Handheld Device is a custom-designed, small battery-powered computer used by stockbrokers to manage and monitor stock transactions on the New York Stock Exchange trading floor. This computer packages a great amount of technology in a housing that is extremely comfortable to hold and carry while maintaining a compact size. The minimal user controls create a strikingly simple interface, the soft curve of the back accommodates a wide range of hand sizes and the carrying strap’s innovative sliding system allows for the optimal balance for wearability and accessibility. The value of the design is in its usability, comfort features and the user experience, while solving the challenge of designing a professional-looking product that has a very dynamic use.
