ICHIJODANI ASAKURA FAMILY SITE MUSEUM

Museum

This is the site museum for the exemplary ruins of a Japanese medieval town built during the Warring States period by the Asakura family of feudal lords. The exhibit area features illustrations and models which are based on a wealth of excavated artifacts, totaling some 1.7 million, creating a space conveying a sense of residents’ daily life and the dignity of samurai culture. In addition, it provides a visceral feeling of the past. Elements such as a full-size reproduction of a portion of the main Asakura residence allow visitors to experience and explore the lifestyle of the times in a way that is difficult through old texts and art.
