Intertwine House

Private residence

The task was to extend the living space of an old house in Yangqing, China, without destroying the original building. The annex is inserted into the site like a wedge, in harmony with the original texture of the village. Pale green tiles were used to clad the new structure. Intertwine House is very similar in size to the village's other houses and also has a sloping roof. It connects to the main house through a cave-like internal corridor and an upper-level terrace framed by sloping walls. Its uniqueness lies in the dialogue with the old house, creating a modern life full of rural memories. The addition strategy maintains the original texture of the village, creating a gentle contrast between the old and the new, attracting attention.
