FLY.1 is a Skype USB cordless handset with speaker phone with the operational familiarity of the telephone. FLY.1 addresses the emergent culture of VoIP- such as the remote-participation of a reunion, experiencing a ball game with a friend abroad, or slumbering with a distant lover – by emulating a “virtual presence” of users with its upright “face” of LED display and speaker phone. It enacts the act of conversing face to face so users can talk hands-free naturally for extended periods of time whether handheld, on its dock or on the desktop. The design allows total integration and immersion of Skype VoIP into other spaces and activities.
