The iQ is a sophisticated car, representing the ultimate refined urban mode of transportation aimed at reducing CO2 emissions. Six revolutionary design and engineering innovations, such as ultra-efficient packaging and an asymmetric instrument panel, realized by a compact air-conditioning unit, achieved an interior space for four seats in a total length of less than three meters. This ultra-compact vehicle is both compact yet spacious, and small yet premium. The exterior design is a realization of Toyotas design philosophy "Vibrant Clarity", a synergy of rational factors together with an expression of individuality and quality.
Good design moves - selected by Ronald Ihrig Two doors, three meters, four seats: OK, three-plus-one seats. A fascinating concept that first considers the necessity of parts before designing them. Glove compartment: when did you last tidy up yours? With the iQ, you don’t have to bother because there isn’t one. Instead, there’s more legroom for front seat passengers, if someone is sitting behind them. Trunk? Yes, but you first have to fold down the backseats. 400 liter. A problem? Not for young urbanites without kids, for those young at heart whose kids have already moved out or when used as a second car. The exterior features calm, clear surfaces with harmonious transitions, high doors provide lateral protection, rounded off with a low window line that reinforces the safety capsule feel. Despite compact dimensions, but 14 cm wider than a Smart, the Toyota iQ has passed the NCAP crash test with five stars. This is not a test report, but good design should be based on an honest foundation. Unfortunately, the Toyota iQ is so uncompromisingly designed for optimal use of space and for safety that it cannot share any components with other models. This makes production relatively expensive. At the end of 2014, in Europe, it will only be available as an import model from Japan or the USA.
