Ithaca Mobile Laundry Unit for the homeless

Dignity & Integration through clean clothes

In Attica (Greece) there are more than 20.000 homeless people, lacking access to running water and clean clothes. Ithaca created the 1st Mobile Laundry Unit in Europe. The Unit visits central points, which are easily accessible to the homeless, and provides 20 tons of clean clothes to more than 1200 beneficiaries every year. Moreover, the Mobile Laundry is also a "vehicle" to labor re-integration, as it is operated by people who come from vulnerable groups. Clean clothes contribute in the simplest and most effective way to improve their sense of dignity, their living conditions, and mental status leading to their social inclusion.

WINNER STATEMENT

While we daily experience the gratitude of those we help, we often question whether society recognizes our work. The iF PRIZE means that what we do stands out on a global level among so many other worthy and innovative solutions. We hope not only to continue what we do but expand it further. The iF PRIZE gives us a boost in that direction!"
