Kannon Hall at Shorinji-Temple
Architecture
Shorinji temple
The project involves the renovation of the hall housing the Japanese national treasure, the eleven-faced Kannon statue, at the Shorinji-Temple in Nara Prefecture, Japan. The Kannon statue is estimated to have been created in the 760s and was one of the first cultural assets in Japan to be declared a national treasure. Built in 1959, the Kannon Hall was Japan's first reinforced concrete storage facility for a national treasure, and we improved the environment to better preserve the statue for the distant future by reinforcing it against earthquakes, controlling the air conditioning and installing a seismic isolation platform.
