An almost 100-year-old traditional company, a top stores location and a listed nineteenth century building set the scene for the redesign of the optician Kästner in Königstraße, Stuttgart. An expressive, unusual and extravagant stair sculpture became not just the principal design idea but also a necessary construction measure to improve the situation in the store. The effective use of the expensive shop floor on two levels as well as process optimization are the result of this new architectural implant.
