KOHLER LOOPE

Container Based Sanitation Toilet

Kohler Co

Loope is a container-based sanitation toilet designed specifically for informal settlements, including communities that lack land ownership or government sanitation infrastructure. As a completely recyclable and waterless toilet, it is an environmentally favorable and very gracious sanitation solution. The ergonomic seat positions users for effective urine diversion and the geometrical pattern on the lid is inspired by water ripples, emphasizing the importance of water while ironically adorning a dry toilet. KOHLER Loope aligns with the UN SDG mission, providing access to safe and affordable sanitation for all.

iF Gold Statement

Inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goal of “ensuring access to safe and affordable sanitation for all”, Kohler developed Loope, a fully recyclable and waterless toilet for temporary and informal communities. A key feature is the innovative urine diversion system which reduces odor and simplifies waste management. This is a great example of design innovation in the service of humanity.
