Lookout Bench

Public bench

Kotobuki Corporation

Two design teams (in Portland and Tokyo) worked together to create a bench that would build a bridge between the two cities. The result is an elevated bench with an integrated bike stand to embrace cycling culture and create a place for people to gather together. Located next to a river, the multifunctional bench encourages people to sit and enjoy the view, use it as a stage, or to fall in love at sunset. Its simple and elegant form is intuitive enough to encourage adults to step up, but it’s not an invitation for infants to climb. The recycled wood and steel frame create an inviting public object that can stand strong and last a long time
