Packaging aid
Half of all refugees are children and almost 70% are illiterate. One child refugee told a UN aid worker: “I have no future, my schooling days are over.” Whilst they spend time in exile, it should be used as an opportunity to rebuild their lives. With limited resources and irregular structure throughout camps, I wanted to create something to aid their hearts and minds through the use of their hands and imagination. This packaging aid offers an opportunity to create toys with the benefit of learning basic literacy skills making them more employable in the future.
The idea of transforming used packaging into toys that children can play with really makes sense. And thatâs what makes it so obviously good. We all know that children in refugee camps donât have a lot to laugh about. This idea is sure to give the children a welcome change of pace and brighten their day. In a very simple way. The most modest of means produce impressive results. How great is that!
WINNER STATEMENTI had spent a lot of time creating and developing my idea, so it was an amazing feeling when it had been recognized. It was a very proud moment, and I couldn't wait to tell my friends and family.
