CLASSROOM RENOVATION

High dependency on digital media in adolescents can have a negative emotional and physical impact. The number of students is decreasing, and public schools, therefore, have empty classrooms. The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education officially supported this classroom renovation project to solve this problem. The idea is to make use of and transform empty spaces. The students, the primary users, plan their own biophilic design with the help of professionals. These green spaces are designed to build self-esteem, identity, and a sense of community in teenagers. Once the pilot programs were successfully completed, a self-governing committee managed the spaces, making them more sustainable.
