This project was to transform the Jokyoji temple in Teramachi-dori, Kyoto, into a hotel. This revitalization project was developed as a new model for conserving aging and unused temples for future generations. The main hall is a solemn space where light and shadow interweave and exudes a serene, quiet temple atmosphere. Curated art pieces and furniture, repurposed from the temple, were carefully selected and placed throughout the hotel, accentuating the dance of light and shadow, of black and white monochrome and creating a layering of the temple's history.
