Model of Saxony
Kinetic installation
Staatliches Museum für Archäologie
The time-dynamic model of Saxony floats in the center of the State Museum of Archaeology in Chemnitz. It represents the German State Saxony as a three-dimensional landscape model (1:35,000), composed by five individually controlled slabs. They are moving vertically through a new 15 m high air space. Synchronized with their dynamic motion a film shows 300,000 years of human history. Apart from the show mode the model rests in the entrance hall, presenting an interactive mode. The kinetic sculpture is the main tool in offering a holistic, continuous museum experience within the horizontally structured, heritage-protected building.
