Mogu
Food cooler
Mogu, Mandarin for mushroom, is a food cooler that utilizes the power of evaporation. This method was used in ancient North Africa with clay pots and damp sand to cool perishable foods. Mogu uses the same principle but with modern materials. Instead of wet sand as the cooling insulator, a highly absorbent fabric (currently used for firefighters' vests) cools down the food contents in an aluminum container. This product is meant for those living in warmer climates and smaller spaces. With just water (and not necessarily pure water) this product can help reduce food waste and energy used otherwise for refrigeration.
Using an ancient method of storing food in North Africa, MOGU provides an energy-saving method of food preservation for users in warm-weather climates. It is as useful as it is modern.
WINNER STATEMENTWhen I read that I had won, I was in complete shock. I couldn't speak for a moment, but I kissed my man and told him I loved him (we'll be celebrating this weekend)! It means more than I can express, as an aspiring designer about to graduate, to represent my program in Lund.
