Mori no Wakko
Social-ecological toy
Mori no Wakko Project
Mori no Wakko is a toy integrated into a social-ecological initiative for local community and nature. This project has so far spread to 20 municipalities through Hokkaido and other parts of Japan. The toys are simple doughnut-shaped, produced from local trees and given to newborns in the municipality. The service design to produce and distribute products in line with local conditions is important for the future care and sustenance of local communities and the global environment as a whole. Wakko means "circle" in Japanese, and the name expresses the hope that the circle linking forests, people and communities will spread across generations.
