MYCOsella Viridis
Growing the Mycelium Chair
The MYCOsella Viridis is an innovative piece of sustainable furniture that explores the use of mycelium composite – a novel material – created through the natural processes of growth and decay. This fully biodegradable mycelium chair aims to address the environmental impact of traditional furniture production and disposal by offering an eco-friendly alternative. It provides a unique blend of form, function and environmental stewardship. Demonstrating mycelium’s viability beyond conceptual use, the chair uniquely showcases a real-world application of biomaterials, fostering bio-innovation and promoting a shift towards green manufacturing.
The great value of this project lies in the fact that it has been implemented. This is the essence of sustainable design that respectfully learns from nature.
WINNER STATEMENTIt’s an incredible honor to win the iF DESIGN STUDENT AWARD, especially considering the role of the SDGs in this competition. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to these vital goals and to promote them further through this prestigious platform.
