Nemo
Swimming prosthesis for one-armed users
Nemo is designed to enable single-armed amputees to swim smoothly and correctly. Based on the study of fluid dynamics and anthropometry, Nemo compensates for the missing limb in the water, balancing the volume and fluid dynamics of a normal limb. The device consists of two parts: a neoprene sock, designed to fit the prosthesis up to mid-biceps, to the end of which is glued (using epoxy resin) a rigid socket; and a prosthesis, made from the same material as the socket, which attaches to the first component via a spring-loaded bayonet joint mechanism.
JURY STATEMENTWINNER
Nemo gives arm amputees the opportunity to take part in swimming sports. For those affected, this means a great increase in freedom and quality of life.
