Versatility was the most important keyword for Nest Cam (outdoor or indoor, battery-operated) as the device was meant to be placed almost anywhere in and around the house - indoor, outdoor, on wall, ceiling, or tabletop. Google wanted to create a camera that had a presence as a deterrent when placed on the exterior but would also complement the interior architecture of the home. They did not want Nest Cam to feel obtrusive and intimidating inside the house as most security cameras do. Finding the balance between deterrent and friendliness was key in terms of size, form, color, material and texture.
