Nishikawa Town
TRAS is a multi-functional public facility created in a small town with a population of less than 5,000, with the aim of creating a new liveliness in the town by bringing together the town's people, the related population and the administration. The project was realised through a collaborative process of holding workshops to think about a future that maximises the potential of the town and to create a space suitable for it. The result is a forest-like space that is both continuous and segmented, where a variety of activities coexist, characterised by a plan form of three overlapping arcs and a structural frame made of cedar from the town.
