Japan is one of the most disaster-prone nations, constantly struck by big earthquakes, tsunamis etc. In these times, people are often forced to endure prolonged stays in shelters. While vital infrastructure such as water can often take time to recover, the inability to do laundry amplifies stress both mentally and physically. Maintaining clothing hygiene during disasters is a critical issue for preserving people’s QOL and dignity. Sharp is developing Container Laundry System equipped with a new, original water recycling & saving technology. Our design solution provides a hygienic base where evacuees can wash away their anxiety with laundry.
