ONSEN RYOKAN YUEN SHINJUKU

Hotel architecture and interior design

UDS Ltd.

YUEN Shinjuku is a modern and urban version of the traditional Japanese ryokan inn. The designers extracted the essential features of a ryokan and “edited” them to fit the practical needs of modern travelers. While the façade is that of a traditional ryokan, the traditional design begins to gradually blend and shift to modern contemporary forms as the guest proceeds towards the lobby and guestrooms. This transition is intended to be subtle and natural so that the whole experience is comfortable and memorable, and authentically Japanese.

iF Gold Statement

Located in the densest part of Tokyo, this hotel assumes the appearance of a traditional Japanese Ryokan and infuses it with a unique genius loci. The choice of materials from wood to traditional textiles and fabrics is consistent and multi-sensual. Simply entrancing!
