Onyx Design Language

Design concept for product series

Dell Inc. Experience Design Group

The new Latitude Notebook PCs demonstrate the refreshed design language from Dell called Onyx. This new approach is about clarity, performance, and sophistication. The language is based on planar forms that are combined to create drama and emphasize the particular product attributes. This allows for a strong family resemblance, and gives flexibility and scalability across form factors. Additionally, a layering technique is used to create interest, reduce visual mass, and emphasize certain aspects of a specific product’s design. This design language features strong, protective hinges on the outside, which are not visible from the inside.
