Multimedia event design

General Motors (GM) unveiled a SUV crossover coupé concept to international media representatives at the IAA motor show. The aim was to stage the world premiere of the Opel Antara GTC in keeping with the new design language – more distinctive, more dynamic and more emotional – and visually convey the design claim and brand value in a palpable way. A three-dimensional broadcast design proved a compelling way to convey the message. There were two impressive-looking, five-meter wide balloons to the right and left of the semicircular stage. Four more balloons were positioned about 20 meters back and staggered at different eye levels. An arched, 8-meter-tall projection screen commanded the back of the stage. These highly expressive elements created some unusual projection areas for a dynamic show. The staggered balloons used as projection surfaces and the mirror effect of the stage floor produced a 360-degree, all-encompassing video presentation and created “3D virtual realities” of impressive depth and quality. Action-packed sports scenes, forays into the world of power shopping, meditative wellness sequences and urban lifestyle projections all set the scene for the central theme of the show: the Opel Antara GTC in its natural environment.
