Architecture

This project aimed to create more than scrap-and-build value by reusing a 35-year-old existing building through a combination of reduction and expansion. Initially, the owner wanted to rebuild, but our architects proposed and realized a renovation. We added and renovated the building using domestic timber with the aim of discovering the charm of the existing frame, which had changed over time, and fostering an attachment to the building and its beauty over time (wabi-sabi). The building's comfort and environmental performance were dramatically improved, and a building that was to be destroyed was revived as a 100-year-old structure.
