Artistic book made of ice

PYRY is a book about preserving the feeling of coldness. Photographs were taken in the Arctic Circle, printed on thin paper, soaked in water, then frozen. The result is 1kg ice pages separated by transparent pages and bound by a semipermeable textile. In using ice as material, the book aims to convey the transience and fragility of its contents. Unlike other books, this one must be stored at a temperature below 0°C. The effort involved is symbolic of the effort that must be made to preserve the Earth’s cold zones for the role they play in balancing our climate and ecosystems.

JURY STATEMENT

PYRY conveys its core message in a creative, memorable and carefully crafted way.

WINNER STATEMENT

Thank you for the incredible honor! Investigating the feeling of cold and working with ice as a material was not always easy. That's why I'm so grateful to my mentors, friends and family for always encouraging me.
