Penghu Ferry

Ro-Ro Ship

Re-thinking the Maritime Public Travel System The Tai Hwa Ferry of yesterday was merely a vessel transporting cargo, people, and vehicles from the main island to Penghu. After 34 years of continuous service, its rusty and run-down appearance slowly showed traces of time. Penghu Ferry replaces Tai Hwa Ferry—the first experiment for the Taiwanese government to ‘design’ public transportation. It was a two-year collaboration with various stakeholders between Taiwan and Japan during COVID-19. Our concept?—We turned a ferry into a destination, extending the local traits of Penghu, and inviting visitors to experience the island before anchoring.
