A language dialect is a living fossil of culture. In Shanghai, more and more young people can't speak the regional Shanghai dialect. Singer Zhou Yong, a Shanghai native, is concerned about this language gap, so he created a folk music album, Really Dig Ya, with lyrics in the Shanghai dialect. The core visual element of the album cover is a deep-fried dough stick, a culinary symbol of the city and a favorite among city residents. The album and artwork are an outreach effort, an attempt to make new transplant residents to the city fall in love with both the local dialect and culture.
