Reef of Hope - Topology-Optimized Artificial Reef
3D-printed PHA with upcycled sea shell made reef
Better 14 Limited
This artificial reef design is for oyster reef restoration, and restores oyster populations globally, addressing the 85% loss of oyster reefs due to pollution, climate change, and coastal development. Using 3D-printed biodegradable PHA infused with upcycled seashell with bioactive coatings and topological structural design, it promotes oyster settlement while significantly boosting carbon sequestration and reduction in pollutants. Field trials show tripled oyster settlement rates, increased biodiversity with species like shrimp and small fish, and improved water quality, offering a scalable solution for global coastal restoration.
