Shape-changing Furniture

This work presents a new generation of multifunctional, portable and transformable furniture. Acknowledging the problem that living space in global cities is becoming scarcer and smaller, we envision the physical world of atoms around us being able to change its shape as needed. To achieve this, we invented a thin and lightweight material composite that can seamlessly switch back and forth between rigid and soft states. When soft, one can form the material as desired, then switch it to rigid and have it fulfill the desired function. reForm prototype is a furniture that can change both form and function: from carpet to chair and back again.

JURY STATEMENT

Even though the designer uses the simple materials in the design, it also can provide our life with more convenience.
