Riprap Jam transforms coastal infrastructure into a regenerative ecological engine. Addressing pollution in waterways like the Gowanus Canal, this bio-fabricated composite merges robotic precision with environmental decay. Made from local soil and waste (kelp, oyster shells), the unfired system utilizes "programmed erosion": specific geometries dissolve to release nutrients, feeding aquatic life. Over a 5-year cycle, the structural barrier evolves into a thriving biological reef. This project pioneers "Computational Ecology," proving that high-tech manufacturing can actively heal nature.
