Water and sanitation

This rainwater tank is one of the safest and most economical ways to collect and use rainwater. Most regions of Sri Lanka have a tropical monsoon climate, divided into rainy and dry seasons. Even the driest areas have an annual rainfall of at least 600 mm, making it easy to collect rainwater. However, it is a challenge to prevent insects from entering the tank and laying larvae in the stagnant water, thus leading to disease and contamination. This design solves that problem – simply and elegantly.

JURY STATEMENT

Especially for areas with changing weather situations, this design offers a good solution to ensure drinking water even during dry periods. The simple filter technology supports low-maintenance use, which is especially valuable in remote areas. The self-explanatory and function-oriented design becomes an expressive stylistic element of this application, which can be integrated into a wide variety of environments.
