Sake – Suki Ni Nacchatta

Sake packaging

JItoZU

This package was designed for a unique local brand of Japanese sake brewed by women. Traditionally female brewers were prohibited. It was said that the goddess of sake preferred men and scorned women. But times have changed and now men and women do the same work and drink the same sake. This sake is brewed by female sake lovers called "washu joshi." The brand name, "Suki Ni Nachatta," means "to fall in love." It asks who, or what, did these women fall in love with? The sake? Or you? The design features the female okame mask, a well-known symbol of Noh theater. The background is a stylized design of the kanji for Towada, where the brewery is located.
