Surgical Navigation for the Brain

Flash EVD is a surgical navigation system for the placement of an external ventricular drain (EVD) which is placed by a neurosurgeon under emergent conditions to drain blood and cerebral spinal fluid from the brain. Developed at The University of Toronto, Flash EVD uses optics and machine-vision algorithms to create a fast, accurate and radiation-free model of a patient’s brain. An EVD can then be inserted precisely without damaging sensitive brain tissue. Flash EVD cart makes a complex technology, small, light and approachable.
