Smart bicycle Rack

Bicycle Energy Storage

The Smart Bicycle Rack has been designed to take the energy stored in a bicycle generator and feed it into a main power supply. All the user has to do is to park the bike in the rack and could be compensated for this contribution, e.g. with a tax deduction, to encourage such energy-saving systems as the environmentally-friendly Smart Bicycle Rack. Thus, the utility companies profit from the extra electrical energy that is fed into the system and the user gets some kind of economic benefit.

WINNER STATEMENT

Hello. We're studying in Seoul National University of Science and Technology in South Korea. We're very thankful to receive this prize. We had conflicts in our mind on our approach as we wondered whether we should design products which get rid of inconveniences or whether we should design products which appeal to the aesthetics. While we were considering this, we learned from our professor that a designer is a person who provides service for consumers. We believe that the fundamental approach in regards to design is to provide the service of giving a sense of personal warmth and enjoyment to people who are surrounded by dry and dull spaces through incorporating changes in design. Also we usually obtain our ideas for design through our experiences. And so, we are always making an effort to try to directly experience and feel various things. We make an attempt to make a note or take a picture so that we can remember the ideas which we have come about through what we have personally experienced, seen or felt. We believe that ideas which have been obtained through diverse experiences allow many people to be able to relate to them. We hope that many people will naturally feel a sense of identification in their daily lives to the products which we have designed.
