Environmental protection

ST_OIL is an intelligent oil spill removal fleet with associated management system built around the idea of a fleet of mother vessels and several child vessels. When oil spills, the mother vessel carries her children to the site. On arrival, the children are detached and circle around the spill to contain it while the wood-fiber lipophilic sponge removes the oil from the water surface. Once a child is filled, it returns to the mother and transfers the collected oil to her. Both the mother and children are equipped with LIDAR and visual sensors for better identification of the oil spill.

JURY STATEMENT

The design team addressed a major environmental protection challenge with a well-thought-through system of autonomous cleaning vessels. The concept addressed questions of how to manage the fleet and collect and store the spilt oil. The big question that remains is how to finance and implement this solution.

WINNER STATEMENT

Winning an iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD is a great affirmation for the team, giving us the motivation to continue to dream up unexpected designs.
