SnowStride
Walking Aid for Snowshoeing
SnowStride is an adaptive snowshoeing device that supports sports-based rehabilitation. Traditional methods for regaining leg strength often involve clinical approaches, typically conducted indoors, which can lead individuals to have a negative perception of their recovery process. SnowStride changes the approach to leg injury recovery through a safe, fun, and adaptive activity. Customizing the springback between the base and hiking poles allows for incremental levels of support when lifting the leg, ideal for slowly building leg strength after an injury without the need for additional equipment or memorizing physiotherapy exercises.
We believe enabling recreation outside of clinical environment improves the healing process by being outdoors and interacting with friends and family. The project very well identifies the similarity between snowshoeing and lower limit injury rehab and develops a well executed design solution for those who live in snowy regions. This demonstrates perfectly that rehabilitation from injury doesn’t have to be tedious.
WINNER STATEMENTI am honored to receive such a prestigious design award. This accolade has made me realize the value of novel approaches to improve the lives of overlooked user groups through an iterative and holistic design process.
