



SOMA Surf - Proud Surfers of the African Women
Surf therapy and female empowerment program
SOMA's mission is to empower young African girls and fight gender inequalities, through surf therapy, combining sports and psico-education SOMA is estabilished in São Tomé, a country which suffers from considered gender disparities and one of the poorest in Africa, where poverty affects more women than men due to less education and employment status Since its 1st edition, SOMA has intervened more than 100 girls, aged 6 - 18, from Santana, empowering them to confidently become a relevant part of society by giving them the tools to suceed Supporting SOMA means raising generations of women who make their won choices and fullfil their potential.
SOMA and it's impressive young leader has taken an innovative approach to girls' empowerment, safety, health, and connection through surfing clubs in a region where development aid is extremely limited- Sao Tome and the planned expansion to Cape Verde- and often unimaginative.
WINNER STATEMENTWinning this prize enables our proud surfers to continue riding waves of parity in Africa, as it guarantees 7 months of transportation to our surf therapy sessions. We are immensely grateful for this support in our journey to raise the next generation of confident African young women.
