Specula, a new take on a traditional document camera, brings the instant nature of in-person collaboration to a home office for designers and teachers. With existing document cameras, it is difficult to keep documents in camera view since users must frequently look at the computer screen to see if their view is captured. Users shake or block the camera view when reaching for controls, and are unable to see live Zoom annotations from peers. Instead, Specula projects the edges of the captured view, as well as realtime Zoom annotations on paper, minimizing breaks in workflow. The remote is detachable, limiting hand interference with camera view.
