Spongiosa Metal

orthopedic implant surface

The Spongiosa Metal represents a unique implant surface design, which provides space (70% porosity) to the bone for growing through including nerves and blood supply. The bone definitively lives within the implant. Besides the bone experiences a low and therefore biological rigidity of the structure despite the high elastic module of the alloy. The structure is produced in the high quality casting procedure with lost moulds from an CoCrMo alloy. The implant core and structure is one single unit. Contrary to e.g. metallic foam, the Spongiosa Metal consists of individual hexapods, which allows a specific optimization to the implant surface (thickness variations 0,3-3,5mm) and a reproducible manufacturing.
