Stitching Concrete
Stool
Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften - Fachhochschule München
Stitching Concrete is a project, inspired by the contrasts in materials of concrete and canvas. These stools are made by folding fabric that has been impregnated with cement, and then soaked in water. A wooden mold supports it while it dries and hardens within 24 hours. The material combines the warm softness of cloth with the stability of concrete, while the finished surface retains a soft appearance. It plays with the visual illusion that cloth is not strong enough to sit on. The stools are designed for use indoors and out. The material is UV and chemical-resistant, fireproof and water-resistant.
