Street Business School
Poverty Alleviation Program
Street Business School (SBS) trains NGOs in 33 countries to implement evidence-backed entrepreneurship curriculum which helps women living on less than $2.15 a day lift themselves out of poverty. Unlike similar programs, SBS participants start and sustain businesses without microloans, learning to leverage existing resources and to analyze local markets while building confidence and business acumen in equal measure. By supporting SBS' work, you can help 1 million women double their income and overcome barriers to improving their financial positions, like lack of higher education and endemic gender inequality.
An innovative and super catchy approach to empower overlooked female entrepreneurs working on the street. The program has had a major global impact already and has scaled impressively, which is a testament to its relevance, desirability and feasibility.
WINNER STATEMENTWe are thrilled to receive this prize. The program started as an initiative of the local cooperatives in the neighborhood and within four years it has established itself as an example of clear public policy. It brings us great joy to see this intense work and effort being recognized.
