The Historic Archives Building of Chiayi City

Restaurant & exhibition hall

These two buildings were initially a Saikan and an office of the Chiayi shrine. Although the structure was later turned into The Historic Archives Building of Chiayi City, it could hardly attract the public for a visit due to its far-off location and lack of reparation. As the designer agreed to the concept of historic site preservation and reuse, the work was done without violating the original building's beauty. More Japanese architectural elements and decorations have been add-in, creating a space that mixes the past and the present, and experience the charm of ancient Japan by walking along with the structure.
