The Illustration of Baby Care

Infant care pamphlet

Women account for two-thirds of the world's 780 million illiterate adults and the vast majority of infant caregivers. Caregivers with low levels of literacy are reliant on orally transmitted information to identify and treat diseases common within one year of a child's birth. This illustrated book is designed for infant caregivers with weak literacy. Its multi-functional map of infant diseases can be deciphered largely without reading. This can reduce the delay in treatment for infants.

JURY STATEMENT

The Illustration of Baby Care project was born from the recognition that it is twice as hard for women to access childcare education, yet in most cases women are the main caregivers to infants and toddlers. This brilliantly designed “multifunctional illustrated pamphlet” acts as a guide to infant care and common diseases and ways to detect them through simple graphic design. As a result, it is suitable for caregivers with low literacy levels. This project is good evidence of how great use-value can be created by combining a well-thought overview of the intended setting and strongly refined design input.

WINNER STATEMENT

We are so grateful for this award. Baby Care is an illustrated book for caregivers of infants and young children who have poor literacy skills. We hope that this design can help caregivers take better care of babies.
