This Rolling Mortar is a spice grinder that breaks the “mortar and pestle” archetype. In contrast with banging the mortar with pestle which is difficult to keep the content inside the mortar, the JIA Inc. Rolling Mortar features a wooden wheel that rolls elegantly back and forth to crush the content inside the uniquely shaped, half-pipe mortar. It was designed to keep the content from flying all over the place like many commercially available mortar and pestles. By reflecting on the Chinese history, the designer was able to find solution that sets the design apart.

This rolling mortar is a genius product in a pure and subtle form. It will serve equally as a beautiful detail in your kitchen and also as an ergonomical and clever tool. Instead of brutally crushing the contents, it easily rolls back and forth to prevent the chopped goods from flying out. It is well executed in oak and porcelain, with a tactile and smooth surface.
