As the only city with a precise record of establishment in ancient China, it was named by the Yongle Emperor (the third emperor of the Ming dynasty, who reigned from 1402 to 1424) who began his quest for power here and literally means the 'ferry of the Emperor'. To echo this history, the idiom “carp jumps over the Dragon Gate” (meaning raising one’s social status) is expressed in the form of an illustration.
